Litwick (Pokmon) - Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokmon encyclopedia

Litwick (Japanese: ヒトモシ Hitomoshi) is a dual-type Ghost/Fire Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It evolves into Lampent starting at level 41, which evolves into Chandelure when exposed to a Dusk Stone.

Biology

A Litwick with its flame extinguished

Litwick is a small, candle-like Pokémon with a purple flame atop its head, which is powered by life energy that it absorbs. Its body and two stubby arms are made primarily out of white wax. The folded, melted wax lays over its right eye and leaves only the bright yellow left eye visible. It has a small smile under a protruding upper lip.

Litwick pretends to guide people and Pokémon around by illuminating darkened areas. However, it is sucking away their life energy and leading them to the Ghost World. In the anime, the flame is shown to grow as it continually absorbs life energy and interferes with electronic devices such as Pokédexes.

Evolution

Litwick evolves into Lampent, which evolves into Chandelure.

  • Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon: A group of Litwick appears in Serene Village, haunting the village school during summer vacation. The player, partner, and their classmates investigate the hauntings, only for Pancham and Shelmet to be kidnapped and taken to the Ancient Barrow. The rest of their classmates follow them to save them, confronting the four Litwick and a Solosis using an illusion to disguise itself as Giratina. After the Litwick have been defeated, they reveal that they were scaring villagers to feed off of their fear, having teamed up with Solosis to scare others more. The partner agrees to let them off the hook as long as they keep their scaring in moderation from now on and secretly also do helpful deeds in the process, which they agree to.

Trivia

Origin

Litwick may be based on a candle and the hitodama or will-o'-the-wisps.

Name origin

Litwick may be a combination of lit, little, wick, and possibly wicked.

Hitomoshi may be derived from 火点し hi-tomoshi, which literally means "lighting a lamp" but can also refer to a person who leads a funeral procession with a torch. The name can also be interpreted as 人燃し hito-moshi (to burn a man to death).
